Biscuit Company Lofts, a landmark building, constructed in 1925, restored and adapted in 2006, offers 104 authentic live/work lofts and a fantastic french bistro at the ground level. Located in Downtown L.A.'s Arts District, Biscuit lofts range from 605 square feet to 3,496 square feet over one, two or three floors.
Conceived as the west coast headquarters of the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco), this landmark structure was designed by EJ Eckel, the Dean of American architects and fonder of the distinguished firm of Eckel & Aldrich. Constructed at the then astounding cost of $2,000,000, this celebrated 7 story, skyscraper factory quickly became an architectural sensation.
As with other distinctive Nabisco conversion projects such as the Dia Museum in upstate New York and the Chelsea market in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan, the Biscuit Company Lofts blend meticulous period craftsmanship and architectural integrity with an array of modern conveniences and brilliant contemporary design. Biscuit Company Lofts sets the standard for lofts in Los Angeles. Biscuit is also a benchmark project referenced throughout the world.
Found spaces. The nature of a space. Revealed and restored.
In an effort to preserve the original spirit and detail of the building, the designers of Biscuit Company Lofts sought to find and follow the natural grain of the building, respecting its parameters but looking at them from the standpoint of new use.
Aleks Istanbullu Architects has crafted varied floor plans and common areas with distinct shapes and color schemes. Single story units range from 605 to 2,100 square feet, and there are seventeen unique two, three and four story units varying from 1,800 to nearly 6,000 square feet. Ceiling heights are 13', 16' 20' and 30'.
