The Villa Rapallo @ 1201 North Crescent Heights Boulevard is today known as Villa Italia. The $300,000 structure has been a West Hollywood landmark since its completion in 1931 and has been home to a number of famous people including silent screen legend Louise Brooks, Randolph Scott, Shelley Winters, and television’s loneliest Maytag Repairman, character actor Jesse White.

These taller residential structures were meant to emulate the taller apartment buildings in New York City, familiar to those in the entertainment industry who were relocating to Los Angeles. For this reason, the building reflects significant geographical patterns, specifically those associated with the growth and relocation of the entertainment industry. It constitutes a significant representation of the community planning methods of this particular time and geographic location.
