In 1868, W.C.B. Richardson acquired land in the region and renamed it Rancho Santa Eulalia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">By 1902, the land that would become <a href=\"https:\/\/toplacondos.com\/Atwater-Village\">Atwater<\/a> was subdivided and marketed to homebuilders. The name \u201cAtwater Tract\u201d is believed to derive from its proximity to the Los Angeles River literally \u201cat water.\u201d Some residents also attribute the name to Harriet Atwater Paramore, whose maiden name was Atwater, tying into early ownership narratives in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">Over time, as the area developed its identity, \u201cVillage\u201d was appended in 1986 to reflect its more community-oriented spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">One particularly interesting historic feature is the Atwater Equestrian Historic District, a vernacular landscape with equestrian uses, which preserves part of the neighborhood\u2019s pastoral legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-3a88641f wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lapl.org\/branches\/atwater-village\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Atwater Village Branch Library<\/a> also holds a bit of history: in 1923, a small \u201cAtwater Station\u201d depository was housed on the campus of Atwater Avenue School.
